Safe working in education, childcare and children’s social care – new guidance on aerosol generating procedures (AGPs)

It is vital that all children, young people and learners, including those with complex health or additional health needs, are able to continue with their education and care in their education or children’s social care setting where it is safe to do so.

We have updated our guidance on safe working in education, childcare and children’s social care settings to support those who require aerosol generating procedures (AGPs). This update includes information on:

  •          the type of AGPs that are commonly performed in education and children’s social care settings
  •          carrying out AGPs in education and children’s social care settings
  •          personal protective equipment (PPE) requirements

We know that all settings, children, young people and learners have individual needs and this guidance should be adapted to meet these individual circumstances, focusing on collaboration between education and care settings, families, local authorities and health providers.

It is important that settings and services continue to communicate clearly with parents on progress so that children, young people and learners who need AGPs can be supported to return to their setting safely.

Updated guidance for initial teacher training (ITT) providers

We have updated our guidance for initial teacher training (ITT) providers to confirm that it is for ITT providers to agree with schools if it is appropriate to remotely observe and moderate trainees’ teaching in school.
