This is your daily email to keep you updated on the government’s response to coronavirus (COVID-19).

Early years foundation stage statutory (EYFS) disapplications

We have updated the early years foundation stage (EYFS) statutory framework disapplications guidance to clarify:

  •          when the disapplications apply in a period of local or national restriction
  •          how requirements for staff to self-isolate is considered for disapplications
  •          details of paediatric first aid certification requirements for providers on the general childcare register

The date for extensions of paediatric first aid certificates is currently under review and will be confirmed shortly.

Remote education provision

Our guidance on the new national restrictions makes it clear the government is continuing to prioritise the long term future of children and young people, and early years settings, schools, colleges and universities will remain open.

As set out in our guidance on the actions for schools during the coronavirus (COVID-19) outbreak, schools should continue to take steps to ensure children and young people who are unable to attend school due to coronavirus (COVID-19) are able to access remote education.

We have worked with sector leaders to create a package of resources designed to support remote education planning and delivery. Remote education resources, information and support for teachers and school leaders can be found in our get help with remote education guidance.

National School Meals Week – 9 to 14 November

The annual National School Meals Week is taking place this week. The aim of this campaign is to highlight the importance and benefits of school meals and to champion and celebrate school caterers.

Further information on National School Meals Week, the taste for yourself campaign and fun activity ideas are available on the LACA web-site.

University student movement plans for the end of the term

The government is committed to ensuring that students who have been living away from home are able to return home at the end of term, if they choose to do so.

In order to travel home safely, students in England will be required to follow the current national restrictions in place until Wednesday 2 December, completing this four-week period in their term-time accommodation.

From 3 December to 9 December, which will be known as the ‘student travel window’, students will be allowed to travel home on staggered departure dates set by universities. They will work with other universities in the region to manage pressure on transport infrastructure.

The student travel window will mean students can travel having just completed the four-week period of national restrictions, reducing the risk of transmission to family and friends at home.

Universities should move learning online by 9 December to allow students to continue their education from home.

Further information on students returning home, moving education online and testing availability to support end of term movement can be found in our guidance on student movement and plans for the end of term.
