Severe Weather Procedure

SEVERE WEATHER CONDITIONS

On days with severe weather, e.g. heavy snow, a decision to open or close the school will be made on a daily basis, in accordance with the number of teachers who are able to get into school. This will depend on whether the teachers are able to travel to school safely. The decision will be made by 7.30am at the latest, on each day that we experience heavy snow. We will inform parents and carers whether the school is open or closed via email, the school’s website Homepage and on the school’s Facebook page. It is hoped that the school telephone will be staffed from 8.00am – 9.00am.

Please do not leave your child/ren at school without checking that the school is open

Should the school be open, but worsening conditions indicate that by the end of the school day children and staff may have difficulty getting home, every attempt will be made to contact you to ask you to come and collect your child/ren from school early, using the same contact methods as above – email, website and Facebook. Please make sure that we have your correct phone number to ensure that we are able to contact you directly if necessary. Needless to say, members of staff will remain at school until all of the children have been safely collected.

If you anticipate difficulties collecting your child/ren later in the day due to deteriorating weather conditions, please come early to collect them from school, or telephone us to let us know if you have made alternative arrangements.

Should the school remain open during snowy weather, we ask that children come to school wearing warm clothes, coats, hats, scarves, gloves and importantly wellies so that they can play in the snow. Wellies should be brought to school in a plastic bag to be changed in to for break times.

We hope that we will not have to close the school, but wanted to inform you of the arrangements if it becomes necessary.
