Updated guidance for initial teacher training (ITT) providers on school placements

Last week, we updated our guidance for initial teacher training (ITT) providers during the coronavirus (COVID-19) outbreak to confirm that it is for ITT providers to agree with schools if it is appropriate to remotely observe and moderate trainees’ teaching in school. The guidance also includes links to resources that may be helpful in discussions between schools and ITT providers on this subject.

The guidance has also been updated to replace the ‘120 days in schools’ section with guidance on trainees spending sufficient time in school to demonstrate the Teachers’ Standards, including through remote school-based training where required.

Free service available to advertise and search for teaching roles

Teaching Vacancies is the free, national service for searching and listing teaching roles provided by the Department for Education. Education Minister Baroness Berridge is encouraging schools to sign-up to this free service.

Speaking to school leaders earlier this week, she said “Together we have the power to make Teaching Vacancies the official, go-to site for teachers looking for their next teaching role”.

“Thousands of job-seeking teachers are already visiting the site each week and, as a free national service, Teaching Vacancies has removed the need for schools to pay a single penny on recruitment advertising”.

Over 75% of state schools have signed up to use the service.

To sign-up, send your full name, the name of the school or academy trust you work for and your work email address to teaching.vacancies@education.gov.uk.

Please post any vacancies you may have on Teaching Vacancies to help make this the go-to service for teachers looking for their next teaching role.
